The Mesa Soldiers earned their 6th win today when they faced off against the Chandler Youth Football Outlaws. It apparently was a day for the Isaiah’s; Isaiah Hunt [27] was making key tackles every time I turned around, Isaiah Tucker [32] returned a kick off for a touchdown and Isaiah Wood [20] rushed for over 100 yards today.
The boys did well and managed to hold the Outlaws to just 7 points (yes there goes the string of shutouts, but that’s ok) while the offense played smash mouth football and kept driving the ball down field. Penalties were not an issue today as they have been over the last couple of weeks and the boys didn’t jump off sides a single time today.
Even though we were missing two of our players, Nathaniel Graves[17] and Jacob Wrightsman [16]; the boys played like you would expect them too and pulled out the win. Joshua Graffice [31] even saw a few plays as the QB today when Matthew Schoonmaker [7] took a excellent block that put him on the sidelines for a couple of plays. Mind you, Joshua played QB for the first time today during our warm-ups just in case Schoonmaker got hurt with the absence of Wrightsman. Coach A.C. must have felt like Nostradamus today when he needed to call upon Josh to take the helm for a few plays.
There were so many good plays today; the defense put serious pressure on the Outlaws quarterback and even took in a couple of sacks today. Once again the defense picked up an interception, today’s was brought in my Tyzer Ratliff [41]. I’d like to mention all the boys’ names as each and everyone of them played their hearts out today and did a great job, but we would be here until next week if I wrote about each of them.
Job well done boys, we are all very proud of each and everyone of you!! Time to focus and start working for our next and final game of the regular season against the Gilbert Dawgs Red.
The Mesa Soldiers face off against the Dawgs Red next Saturday at 10 am at Highland Jr. High; make sure to come out and cheer on the boys as this will be a fantastic game and one you won’t want to miss.
Thanks goes out to the Chandler Outlaws for a great game and outstanding sportsmanship and as always many thanks goes out to the parents. Thanks for keeping the boys hydrated, motivated and well rested for the hard work and effort they put out on Saturdays.
See you on the field!!
